Violinist and conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky was born September 27, 1954 in Baku in the family of outstanding musicians: his mother - pianist Bella Davidovich, father - violinist Julian Sitkovetsky. In 1961-1972 he studied at the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory, where his mentors were Yury Yankelevich and Ms. Glezarova. At the age of 12 (1966) he became the laureate of the 1st prize of the International Competition of Young Performers "Concertino Prague". In 1972-1976 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Igor Bezrodny. Shortly before graduating from the Conservatory, in 1977, he emigrated to the United States. He improved his skills at the Juilliard School in New York with I. Galamian. In 1979 he won the first prize at the First F. Kreisler International Competition in Vienna. In 1982-1987 he lived in Germany, in 1983 he obtained the US citizenship. Since 1987, he lives in London with his wife, singer Susan Roberts and daughter Julia, who, after having graduated with honors from Oxford University, also became a singer.
Dmitry Sitkovetsky's talent is multifaceted and universal. He won the reputation of an excellent soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Europe and the Far East. As a violinist, he performed with the best orchestras of the world: Philharmonics of Berlin, New York and Los Angeles, the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Philadelphia and Cleveland, the Bavarian Radio, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), NHK (Tokyo), Orchester de Paris, Gewandhaus, The St. Petersburg Philharmonic and all the London orchestras. He collaborated with K. Abbado, K. Davis, V. Zavallish, K. Mazur, N. Marriner, M. Rostropovich, J. Temirkanov, M. Jansons and many other outstanding conductors.
Since 1990, Dmitry Sitkovetsky acts as a conductor and has also made a brilliant career in this field. In 1996-2001 he was the chief conductor and artistic director of the Ulster Symphony Orchestra (National Orchestra of Northern Ireland in Belfast). In 2002-2005 - the main guest conductor of the Svetlanov State Academic Symphony of Russia. Since 2003 – he is the music director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (USA).
D. Sitkovetsky – the founder (1990) and director of the "New European Strings" Chamber Orchestra, in which the best musicians of Europe play. The musician is also known as a master of transcriptions for string orchestra and ensembles. The first was Bach's "Goldberg Variations" for violin, viola and cello (in the late 1980s). Since that time, Sitkovetsky has made more than 50 arrangements (mainly for string orchestra) of the works of Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Bartok, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Stravinsky and Schnittke, that were published by such publishers as Doblinger, Sikorski and Schirmer. The last work of Sitkovetsky is the transcription of Stravinsky's “Divertissement for violin and orchestra” (2015).
In 2014 on the Russian TV channel "Culture" were released the first four films from the author's program "Away with Dmitry Sitkovetsky" starring Evgeny Kissin, Barbara Hendricks, Misha Maisky, Bella Davidovich. In those films the author and presenter conducts a conversation with his friends and colleagues - outstanding musicians of our time. The following programs were shown to the world audience on the channel "Medici TV".
